Resolved Question: What do you think of my story so far?

OKAY, SO THIS IS MY FIRST PIECE OF WORK THAT I ACTUALLY PLAN ON FINISHING BECAUSE I FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT. LIKE I'M GOING SOMEWHERE WITH IT. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS MY ROUGH DRAFT, SO IT HAS SOME FLAWS. JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. HONEST OPINIONS ARE WELCOME! FADING Chapter 1: Vanish Unwillingly, Samuel opened his eyes. It was raining outside, but the faintest bit of sunlight shined in through the blinds on his window. The lstreaks of light stretched out across the floor and cast shadows of the objects in his room against the pale blue walls. His eyes were still wet from the tears that he had cried himself to sleep with. His mind was full of the haunting images from the day before. His head so clouded with thoughts, yet he felt so empty. He closed his eyes to see the pictures more clearly and instantly resented every one. Sitting up in his bed, he read the alarm clock on the nightstand beside his bed. It read 6 o’clock. H had no more than thirty minutes to be ready for school. Samuel reluctantly forced himself out of bed and threw on whatever clothes he could fin in his practically empty closet. It didn’t matter what he wore. He didn’t care what he looked like. He didn’t even want to leave his house. He would stay in bed all day, all week, forever even, if his mother had not insisted on him finishing his last week of junior high. It all seemed pointless. Saying goodbye to everyone. The same people that he would see again the following school year. Couldn’t he just save himself the trouble. After all, grades were already in and there was no more work to be done. Only goodbyes to be said and Samuel was nowhere near prepared to face the people he had ignored all year long. What sense did it make. No one would care and no one would notice if he skipped the whole ordeal. As hegrabbed his school things and began heading out of the front door to catch the bus, he heard his mother’s voice calling for him in the living room. She was laying on the couch with a quilt wrapped around her. Her eyes were circled bly black bags that made her look older than what she was. Her black hair stuck to her forehead, she was running a fever. “Sam, honey, could you please bring me a glass of water.” Her voice was weak and she looked so frail and thin. It hurt Samuel to see her like this. “Mom, I don’t have to go. I can stay here with you. I think you need me more than I need to be in school right now.” She struggled to shake her head and simply nodded towards the kitchen. Samuel sighed and went to retrieve a glass of water. Why does she have to be so stubborn, he thought to himself. Ever since she had been diagnosed with cancer, she insisted that Samuel become more social and involved in school functions. His lack of doing so had seemed to make her symptoms worse. Her worry for her son only increased her suffering. She wasn’t the only one suffering, though. Watching his mother slowly die before his eyes was more than Samuel could bear, but what could he do? She refused to partake in the chemotherapy she claimed killed her mother. Instead she opted to die naturally. How cruel of her, Samuel had told himself a thousand times. His mother was letting death take her away from him and rip apart his entire world at the seams and she was just handing it her life without a fight. There was no use in arguing with her now. The cancer has been spreading for months now and without proper treatment she was progressively rotting in her own body. The thought sent chills down Samuel’s spine. He shook off the horrid thoughts and hesitantly asked, “Are you going to see Dr.Bryerstone soon?” He waited for her response, but she only nodded and he knew that was not a yes. He kissed his mother’s forehead and ran to catch the bus. When he arrived at Ridgemont High, there were students hurrying through the hallways and talking at their lockers. He finally nidged through the crowd and reached his locker. He stored away his bookbag and grabbed his yearbook. He knew that no one would really want to sign it, but all week long people would be saying their final words to one another and writing messages in each other’s yearbooks. He could at least get his teacher’s to sign his. He was after all a good student. He ducked through the halls and when he entered his homeroom, a plump little redhead motioned for him to where she was sitting. Surprised that anyone would acknowldge him, he looked around and pointed at himself. The redhead smiled and nodded. As he walked over to where she was at, he began to recall a few rare moments of his junior high career when this very girl had interacted with him and even sat with him at lunch. The memory almost made him smile. She had seen him sitting alone and randomly sat down and started a conversation about the cafeteria food. At the time, he hadn’t wanted to be bother by her. Not her in particular, but anyone for that matter. Now that he thought back, he did enjoy the few ti more

Resolved Question: Sewing machine question?

Hello, I am learning how to quilt, and I would like to buy a sewing machine. I have been searching online and have noticed that they vary widely on price. Since I am a beginner, I really don't want to spend a fortune for a machine. What's the best quality mahcine for, say, under $200? Also, can you tell me what to look for in a sewing machine for quilting purposes? I don't plan to do massive amounts of quilting at least at first...maybe if i get really good at it I will :o) Thanks more

Resolved Question: What would be a fun (grown up) sort of theme for my room?

Right now my room is butterflies and flowers and Tinkerbell. Most of that stuff can come down, the only thing that needs to go is the light switch holder, the purple on my walls, and my butterfly quilt and Tinkerbell throw. What is a fun theme? Like colors, or shapes, or anything more grown up and not as childish. I don't mind links to stores either, I want to put this plan in action :) more

Resolved Question: Would you like to read more of this? Brutal honesty welcome!?

“My name is Jacey Sellers and I would like to say a few words in the memory of my sister. Jessica, or Jess as many of you know her was of course a daughter, a sister, and a friend, but more than that she was an inspiration….” On the way back from the funeral, memories flooded my mind. On every corner there was something to remind me of Jessica. As I pulled into the driveway, the home that once looked so inviting, now appeared dull and lonely. The house itself was just as I remembered, white with blue shutters. The tire swing we had begged for was still hanging from the old oak tree in the front yard, though the rope was tattered now, and I’m sure it wasn’t safe to sit on. Momma’s rocking chair was still in the same spot on the front porch, where she used to read to Jess and I every night after supper. The screen door still creaked as I entered, some things never change. The inside, however, had been redecorated since I left home. I made my way to Jess’s room and held my breath as I stepped inside. Exactly the same, from the yellow walls to the green and yellow quilt Mamaw had made her for her seventh birthday. I should have known, Jessica never was one for change. She’d planned on staying in this town forever, I on the other hand was foolish and could not wait to get out. My stomach knotted when I noticed the picture of Jess and I on her nightstand. It was from my high school graduation three years ago. She looked so young and innocent. It was then that it really hit me, she died young and innocent. I crawled in Jessica’s bed, burrowing my face into her pillow, her scent still strongon the fabric. I didn’t want to wash the smell away with my tears, but I couldn’t hold them back any longer. My baby sister was gone. more

Resolved Question: What Color Should I Paint My Room?

I am redecorating my room and I can't figure out what color to paint it. I don't have all the details of things going in my bedroom but here are a few things I've already decided on. Ivory: http://www.pbteen.com/products/p124/?pkey=cgirls-rugs White bed finish, blue pillows: http://www.pbteen.com/products/p1033/?pkey=csys-furniture But in blue: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=237110-32435-T-1763&lpage=none And one of these for the beanbag: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10747180 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10902918&findingMethod=rr Not sure which one yet. Blue/Green: http://www.pbteen.com/products/p2245/?pkey=cgirls-quilts Blue: http://www.pbteen.com/products/p2263/?pkey=cchandeliers-pendant-lighting This isn't exactly what it looks like, it has three mirrors, but it's close: http://www.target.com/Circo-Kids-Vanity-Table-White/dp/B0018911XW/sr=1-6/qid=1243693140/ref=sr_1_6/186-7729150-2506761?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=0&rh=k%3Awhite%5Fvanity&page=1 This item isn't for sure, it'll probably change in color and design: http://www.pbteen.com/products/p3970/?pkey=cstyle-tiles So, I'm wondering, what color would be good for my room? I have white crown molding, white windows and white doors I don't plan on changing. I'm looking for a subtle and cooler shade of color. Both me and my mom are completely stuck. Thanks so much! :) more

Resolved Question: How do I deal with a cheap woman?

I hear women all the time complain about cheap men, but how do I deal with a wife that is cheap? I'm not materialistic, and if I want something bad enough I'll get it for myself. However, in looking back over 3 years of marriage my wife has always given me things that are cheap, low quality, or hand made. We bought each other's wedding rings and even my ring looks costume. I love what it represents, but it looks really cheap. I know what you're saying...that I should appreciate my wife hand making something for me...however I've seen my wife make a beautiful birthday card in 2 minutes while I'm putting the kids in the car, with no effort. I've also seen her take weeks to make a quilt for a coworker...I'm getting cards...not quilts. I'm not with my wife for her money...in fact she didn't have much when I married her. However, I'm getting frustrated because I feel like my gifts are last minute and made with craft stuff she has around the house. For Valentines Day I bought her lingerie and a nice card, even though money was tight at the time. I got sex and a decorated bedroom. For Mother's Day I took her to a nice restaurant, and we spent the night at a nice suite so she could have an evening without the kids. Now Father's Day is coming and I'm dreading it, because I want her to put as much effort into doing things for me...and dare I say it...at least spend a $20 on me now and then. I asked her to plan a date for us...she pitched a tent in the back yard and put on something sexy...I was thinking more along the lines of a matinee or something. I also want to add that we are both professionals. We both owned our homes before we got married. She's a teacher and combined we have over a 6 figure income. I am the money person in the family. I make sure we have adequate savings for ourselves, retirement, and the kids' education. She doesn't spend a whole lot of money on clothes and entertainment...just crafts. Can someone please give me advice on how to deal with it? She has said multiple times, "I know that you do things for me that you want done for you in return". So she knows how I feel...she has yet to do anything about it.I guess the point that I didn't express is that if I want US to go OUT and have a good time I have to plan, arrange, drive, and pay. She won't even say "Hey I want to take my man to a movie or a picnic." Plus the fact that the things she does for me are CRAFTS! She does this as a hobby. I got a squash for one holiday...(another hobby...gardening). I fly model airplanes...I'm sure if I gave her a model airplane for Mother's Day I would be voted the biggest jerk on the planet. more

Resolved Question: How do I litter train my cat?

I have a 2 year old cat who I've had since he was a kitten. When I first got him, he knew instinctively to use the litter box and never had any accidents. We've just moved in to a new place and now he won't use the litter box at all - he's decided my bed and my 3 couches are all much more fun. I think he's just acting out because of the stress of moving, but waking up 3 nights in a row to him peeing on my blankets (and last night, the quilt my grandma made for me before she died) is getting to be too much. I end up having to wash all my bedding every night and sleeping curled up and shivering on a bare mattress. My plan was to put him in the bathroom with food, water, toys, one of my shirts (to snuggle) and the litter box and go check on him every once in a while to see if he's used the litter box. If he has, he gets treats and snuggles. If he's gone somewhere else, I clean it up and walk out without looking at or touching him (so he doesn't learn that pooing on the floor gets him attention.) The problem with this is that I think I'm making his moving stress worse. He's been crying the entire time he's been in the bathroom and smashing into everything. When I go in there, there's fur everywhere and he hasn't stopped crying. I'm also worried that he'll learn to go where the box is now, which will just re-create the problem when I move it to its permanent home. I feel terrible leaving him in there with no room to play, and I know he's stressed from not being around me, but I can't having him using my furniture as his personal toilet. How can I re-litter train my cat without making him even more stressed than he already is, but without losing more sleep doing laundry and steam cleaning?I doubt it's a medical problem. It began as soon as we moved, and we've tried to keep it as consistent as possible (same food, same litter, same feeding schedule,) but he gets stressed very easily, so I'm guessing it's due to stress. If it continues much longer, I'll take him to the vet to rule out a medical problem, but I doubt it, just because of the timing and lack of other symptoms of illness. more

Resolved Question: What does my dream mean?

I had a dream that my DH ,me and my children moved into a fully furnished new house with a lot of rooms hallways and bedrooms. They were beautiful tidy and neat. My bedroom came with a king sized bed with white sheets and a black quilt. I loved the room. and as I was admiring the well made bed a demon came from under the quilt and jump at me and held on to me and told me that I could never get rid of him. I was not scared of this demon and I knew to kill him that I would have to tear his body apart. So I tried to tear off his arm and he tried to hang on as long as he could. I could not finish the dream bc the alarm clock woke me.Yes I do have a good marriage and good kids so I can't see how this could relate to them...but it is kind of creeps me out..we are not planning on buying a new home either..thanks Vern p.s I am not J.T. Resolved Question: What do you think of this? Homeschooling?

Mom, Please can you just think of this? Im not happy at HKA! I feel like half the time im just waiting around for other people to do THEIR work before we can move on. Mom, I feel my self going closer, and closer to a mental breakdown every day i go. Its crap, mom. You know it. You know that I cant be happy there so will you PLEASE just think about this? Let me just list the pros and cons of homeschooling: Pros: I can learn at my own pace I can focus on school work No stalkers! I can spend my time better, not waiting for other kids to get ready, waiting for clarification for other kids, ect ect. You can graduate faster! (I researched) Some collages want homeschooled kids because they are more mature than alot of others. I wont be up all night worrying about homework, which I usually am. Cons: I wont get to hang with my friends at lunch. Read this please!! Advantages Yes, there are disadvantages to homeschooling. However, there are many advantages, too. * A schedule that works - Are your children early birds? Do you find your peak time of day starting at noon? It can all work in homeschooling. Homeschooling works with your family. Personally, my children love knowing that they are eating breakfast while most of their friends are already in class. * Wide range of learning - You are not stuck to a pre-set curriculum in most cases. There are so many cool things to study - Latin, Spanish, how to garden, quilting, sewing, art, music, microscopes...well, the list is endless. Every year you will find new things to learn, see, and do. * Flexibility - We can take a family vacation in November, a month off in December, a week off when we all have the flu. Homeschooling is flexible. We had no plans to study parade floats, but after watching a parade one day, one of my children starting planning their own float design. While there is no way I am ordering 20,000 roses to decoate a full-size float, we can build a mini-model. We learn art, building design, physics (how to make it move), and math (figuring out measurements to make it all fit. Flexibility! * Knowing your kids - I list this last because I consider it the biggest prize of homeschooling. While there are times every day I would gladly hide in my room, overall I so enjoy my time with my kids. In teaching them, I really get to know them in ways I did not before. I not only love my kids, I being around them. These are just a few, but maybe it will help get you started. In the end, what is required is taking the plunge. It is a leap of faith both frightening and exhilarating. The Pros Educational Freedom. Most homeschooled students have the choice to study and learn what they want, when they want, for as long as they want. This is not to say that all the basics (and more!) aren't covered. But those basics may be covered at age six for one child, and at age ten for another, depending on ability, maturity, and interest levels. (Unfortunately, a few states do have unnecessarily restrictive legal requirements; in those states, educational freedom may be limited.) Physical Freedom. After the initial shock of leaving the school system has passed, parents who homeschool say they experience a real sense of freedom. With their lives no longer revolving around school hours, homework, and the school calendar, these families plan off-season vacations, visit parks and museums during the week, and live their lives according to what works for them. Emotional Freedom. Sadly, peer pressure, competition, boredom, and bullies — are all part of a typical school day. This can be a particular problem for girls. According to studies, self-esteem plummets in middle-school girls. However, similar studies of homeschooled girls have shown that self-esteem remains intact and that these girls continue to thrive. (Read A Sense of Self: Listening to Homeschooled Adolescent Girls by Susannah Sheffer.) Homeschooled kids can dress and act and think the way they want, without fear of ridicule or a need to "fit in." They live in the real world, where lives aren't dictated by adolescent trends and dangerous experimentation. Religious Freedom. Many families feel their religious and spiritual beliefs are an important part of who they are. Homeschooling provides the opp Please mom. Can you think about ME? Can you talk to your cousin about homeschooling since she homeschooled her FIVE KIDS?? I love you mom and I hope you can understand.Sorry its long! But can you skim through? the advantages i copied out. I have already talked to her but i dunno. :(guys you dont go to my school you dont know what its like. more

Resolved Question: Where can I find bedding similar to PBteen but in a queen size?

I am looking to re do my room and was planning on getting a duvet or quilt from PBteen. However the price, as you may think, is not my problem. It is a gift for my 8th grade graduation. I would have gladly ordered something from pbteen but when i looked at the dimensions the largest option, full/queen, is too small. I currently have a 90 x 95 comforter. So I was hoping to get anything that resembles pbteen items but in atleast 90 x 95. (if its bigger that fine because i can always trim it smaller.) So if you know a site or store that has similar items it would help a lot! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: What are you doing to preserve memories for your baby?

What are you doing to preserve memories for your baby? I'm looking for some more ideas. I keep a babybook for her, I have a couple of different photo albums going, and I have digital scrapbook that I make at Scrapblog.com, that I make pages and get printed once a week to give out to my family and friends. My mother is a collage artist, so we often make collages and what not using her pictures as well. What sort of things are you doing for your baby? I plan on taking clothes that she grew out of during in first year, and turning them into a memory quilt, that way we can be reminded of her favorite outfits later on too. Also, what other things are you planning on keeping? I kept some of her preemie outfits, including the one she came home from the hospital in as well as the hat they put on her after birth and the blanket they handed her to me in. I also kept all our hospital bracelets, hospital cards, and hearing test certificate. more

Resolved Question: Advice on purchasing my first sewing machine?

Hi! I am buying my first sewing machine this weekend, and am looking for some advice on other "accessories" I might want to get (threads, scissors, etc). I am not much of a sewer, although I did take two classes in high school. I am looking to eventually make a set of curtains, and then on to some blankets and quilts. I really don't have anything else. Not sure if this will help, but this is the sewing machine I plan to buy: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10543333 Thanks in advance for your thoughtful answers! more

Resolved Question: This is my story What you think?

So ive decided to wright a story to help other teens not make the choices I made when I was going through a tough time. Dont correct me on typos or fragments, just tell me what you think of the introduction. (overview) Thanks for your help. My name is --------------, I am sixteen years old and I live in Bixby Oklahoma with a total population of 20091 people. Im writing this story because I want parents, and other teens to know whats going on with an average teenage male. I was born in chatanooga, Tennessee where I moved to Edmond Oklahoma before I was even a year old. I quickly moved from edmond to the Bixby area in oklahoma. Life was great, picture perfect, one of those families like you see in the old movies. With the wife cookin dinner, kids playing, and dad just coming home from work. I lived in a blue, two story house, my room was downstairs next to my parents, and my younger sister lived upstairs. My room was filled with dalmations, as a kid it felt like I owned every stuffed animal dalmation out there. I could hide in the large pile of dogs, and my mom "couldnt" find me. All of the memories in that house were good, I had a rowdy neigbor about my age that would come over and throw rocks in the street with me, and I also had another neighbor that I would peak over my fence and spy on them. When you walked into my blue house, there was an old couch with a quilt (That I could never find out where it came from) hanging above it. The kitchen was connected with the living room and a halway which led to my parents and my room. One of my best memories was waking up at one in the morning and going to look at the rubber lizard that I had put in a bowl of water and the package said it was to grow up to two feet. I loved that house, there were only two bad memories. The first was when I was spinning around in circles and hit my tooth on a chest my parents owned, the second was when my mom got super glue in her eye and my dad was gone so we had to ask Mr. bush (Our neighbor, also a preacher) to take her to the hospital. Those were absolutley the favorite times in my life that I will always miss. When I was in kidergarden (with the best teacher ever I might add) my parents bought a lot about four miles away and planned to build a new house. We sold "Big Blue" and moved into a rental for a while. Kandace, my little sister, and I would always go to a day care center called childs play while my parents when out to dinner, every Friday night. When our parents picked us up from the center we would always be expecting some kind of reward like we deserved it. One time we got a trampoline, and the other we got a white dog named Daisy. Finnaly our new house was finished, our new neighborhood was called Stanfordelm and we were only the second house in our coldisac. I didnt like this house as much but it was okay, my sister and I got to stick our hands in the concrete, that was cool, but it was different. It wasnt the place that I called "home" but my mom loved it so I went along with it. This house didnt bring memories, or friends, or anything like Big Blue. We slowly stopped talking to people and it seemed that all our family cared about was my dads job. One day I came home from school and everything was like normal, but later that night I remember seeing my dad crying and I didnt know why. Apparently my dad had stolen software from a company that he quit, leaving my family with all kinds of Lawyer stuff. My parents owned the resteraunt guide for a while, then it went under. I always wanted to know what that ment but everytime I asked a "stupid" question, my mom said I would get a "stupid" answer. When my dad had to sell his buisness or whatever he did with it he got a new job, but it ment he had to live in texas. So for a long year my dad would commute from Texas to Bixby every weekend. My parents seemed to be fighting more, over stupid reasons I didnt understand. On my eleventh birthday night, I came home while my dad was out of town, to find my mom drunk and passed out on the floor. I then dragged her to her bed and told her goodnight. That day changed my life, and from that day forward, it would never be the same. more

Resolved Question: Rate the first bit of my book please- help and reviews appreciated. =]]?

The air was strangely warm for early November- all day the sun had peeked out at the small town from behind fleeting thin stretches of clouds. Now as the sun finally set over the horizon, teenagers, free from school for the next two days, swarmed the streets, enjoying what they could of this unexpected reprieve from autumn's chill. Young couples strolled the sidewalks, fingers interlocked while they laughed and joked, shoving playfully. However, something else roamed the streets, alongside the innocent youths. For the most part, he didn't attract attention as he strode purposefully towards his destination. The boy looked to be around eighteen- his frame was just the right height- his chest wide while lean- his wiry muscles gave him a toned look- enough to make him look mysterious and dangerous. He slipped silently into the bookstore at the corner- a tiny, one story brick building. The girl behind the counter looked positively mutinous as she glared out the window at her friends and classmates, clearly envious. However, the moment she looked at his face, a seductive smile leapt to her lips. His face was enough to fill her stomach with butterflies- but when he walked past, not so much as glancing at her, she propped her head back up in her hand, and stared at the place where he'd disappeared between bookshelves. She dwelled on the fleeting look of what she deemed perfection. The cheekbones- high and proud. His lips- she shivered a little at the memory. His upper lip was full- and yet nearly hidden by the pouting, lower- twisted eternally into a smirk. His nose was perfect and clear, as were his cheeks and forehead- not the faintest trace of the blemishes that were a teenagers torture distorted his features. And then- her heart skipped a beat just daring to peek at the recollection of this stranger's eyes. They were pitch black- of that she was certain- but the darkest blue spiraled out from the irises- swirling around until it formed a ring aorund his dark pupils. His hair was ear length and black- worn in a carefully casual diasrray, framing his perfect face- just a little messier than the current style. She hadn't noticed, of course, the monster, always lingering behind the face of a model, the perfect, pointed teeth behind those perfect lips. Hidden from sight in between the first shelves he'd come to- he felt better. For 269 years, he'd roamed the planet- running when he felt the need, sleeping when he grew weary, and hunting when the thirst began to burn in his mouth. But even after that nearly incomprehensible number of years, he shuddered under public scrutiny. From the moment the sun had risen that morning, he'd ben active- perfecting his plans- walking the path he'd be following later on in the night. He had endured the gentle agony of the sun's relentless gaze for some thirteen hours. The crippling pain of standing in a spotlight, with all eyes on you- feeling horribly exposed, which went against the simplest nature of the vampires. Now, alone and indoors, his body finally was able to relax- and he found himself adjusting, with relief, to the safety of night. He almost grinned- but then he realized just what section of the story he'd taken sanctuary in. The young adult. His teeth clenched at the sight of the book covers around him. Row after row of vampire novels met his beautiful eyes, currently narrowed into dangerous slits. The books pushed him to the edge of anger, they never failed to make his eyes flash with the dangerous fury of his kind. The bookstore was his safe-haven- so calming was the atmosphere that more than once he'd fallen asleep in one of the armchairs my the tiny fireplace- waking up to find that the kindly old woman who ran the store had draped a home-knitted quilt over him in the night. Back in 2005, he'd read one of these novels- in those days very few books of it's kind were in circulation- he'd been drawn in by it's elegantly simple cover. By the end of the novel he was beyond loathing for the unknown woman whose name was printed across the glossy cover. Until that point- his people had been thought of as monsters- the evil creatures of myth, legend, and nightmares. In this book, there were GOOD vampires! They were idolized, thrown into an admirable light after centuries of much deserved darkness. What do you guys think so far??Yes, I was alluding to Twilight with the book he picked up in the shop- =]] He didn't like it much- Yes, I'm continuing with it- and to the first answerer- I'd email you more- but you "don't allow email." =]]I have a better version- with better wording that I'm typing up to get published. =]] more

Resolved Question: Are you skeptical or optimistic about the Stimulus Plan?

I must admit that while I try to be the eternal optimist, I just don't see how spending all this money that we don't have is going to help us in the long run. Even the great proponents of the plan admit that our children and their children will suffer for this. It seems like we are rewarding the bad people who stole and bankrupted corporations, banks, 401K's, and brokerage houses with more cash. I think that both the Republicans and the Democrats that foisted this on us are grossly immoral. What, if anything, are you doing to minimize the impact this will have on your life? My kids and I have been clearing the woods in back of our house to grow vegetables in this Spring. My husband has sold most of his unused "toys" on Ebay. I have been selling my hand sewn quilts at the local craft and quilt shows. more

Resolved Question: Have you made a stitched fleece quilt? Any advice? ?

I have about 100 scallop shaped fleece (polar fleece, etc) pieces left over from a neck warmer project. I have trimmed them to be the same size and want to make a quilt like craftsman shingles. I have carefully checked to make sure the stretch is all going in the same direction. Should I place them on the fleece foundation in the same direction? How can I secure them to a lap quilt size piece of fleece? I plan to stitch straight across the top of each "shingle" but I hate to think about stitching each scallop but suspect that will be the best way to keep it from flapping. Should I use a lightweight interfacing suitable for stretch to secure the shingles? Should i use a tight or loose straight or zig zag stitch or try to do a blanket stitch along the edges of each scallop? I think I will stitch a narrow frame to finish off the shingled section and fold up and stitch the excess fabric on each side , top and bottom to have a double thick border. more

Voting Question: How could I improve my coursework both grammar and punctuality wise?

I was wondering whether I should enter it for GCSE coursework or not. Although it's far from finished, I really need other opinions rather than just my own. All ideas and critique are welcome. Sorry if it's a bit long and if it offends anyone... Prologue My heart pounded infuriatingly against my chest, as the drumming of my brain hammered into my skull. My lungs longed for oxygen, but I couldn’t give up now, in this unforgiving place. The Eden forest surrounded my every direction, as I raced across its terrain, running for my life. Towering, dusk trees of every species overlooked me. The moon beamed down its silver emissions, lancing glimmering radiance through the shadowed leaves. Fog blurred my every step, amongst the smell of death that lingered the air. This was not supposed to be the way it should be. Running from the man who I loved so dearly, the man who I gave and promised my life to, till death do us part, in sickness and in health. But…I guess, the only way that this troubled hell would disappear was if one of us were to die. And that one…was certainly not about to be me…I was not ready to give up yet… Story I froze as the emotion of fear drowned my body. My chocolate-brown eyes intrigued by his emerald-green, as he paced smoothly down the stairs. With each step taken, he was a step closer to me, something that I didn’t want, or appreciate at that. My eyes were now swallowed by fear, just as my body also, and my heart continuously felt as if it were missing beats. As he breached the bottom, his eyes watched me viciously, which soon followed by verbal abuse that had escaped from his vile mouth, leisurely. Slouching my head towards the carpeted floor, he approached me. Resting his hand beneath my chin, he raised my head upright, in level to his. Our eyes locked on one another, just like we had when we first met. Gradually, a smirk played on his lips, soon followed by a suspicious scowl. I looked intently at him, with a puzzled expression, but that only encouraged him more. Unnoticeably, his hand was directly aimed for my face, until it was too late to guard myself. It hit my cheek with an incredible force, knocking me backwards, and hitting my head forcefully against the wall. Shock hit me like a bolt of lighting, amongst the undesirable stinging sensation, on my now, reddened cheek, and my throbbing head. My hand grasped my face, whilst the other clasped my head. Taking my hand from my head, a reddened colour caught my eye. Blood. Blood of a helpless victim was it, a victim who could never be helped of this hell of a nightmare. Immediately, panic struck me. My hand now quivering and tears streaming down my face, only allowed him to laugh louder. Why did he do this to me, did he not love me like I loved him? Was I only his toy that he could hit around and throw to the side when he was finished? These thoughts only heartened my salty tears to escape more frequently from my fearful eyes. Poising my head strongly towards my bedroom, I picked myself up and headed for it. In a matter of thirty seconds I was entering the room, and closing the door behind me. My head was only full of hatred and aggression. I hated what I’d become, what he made me into. I swooped over to where the mirror stood. In a moment of madness I embarked on tearing my clothes of my wounded, battered body, until only my underwear were left. Confining my only dignity I had left to own. Standing there inactive, examining myself up and down, I inspected each bruise, cut, scar and graze individually, that slept on my ashen body. Every bruise postured with a shade of yellow, green, blue, and purple. Every cut filled with unimaginable pain, and each graze associated with more pain. Every scar held an inhuman memory; an individual beating that would stay with me for the rest of my life. Nothing could ever compare to this living hell of a life. I had to escape whatever the risk. Reaching for a navy suitcase underneath the pine bed, and yanking it out towards me, I unzipped each compartment that it held, anxiously. I then began tearing clothes of all sorts of colours and styles from the wardrobe and Chester draws and any possessions I could find. Shoving the clothing items and possessions carelessly into the compartments, I was soon stopped in my tracks by the sound of trudging footsteps heading up the stairs. Adrenaline penetrated through my body. What was I to do? With quick thinking, I pushed the now crammed suitcase under the bed, disguising it by covering the open space of the bed with a quilted sheet. Not recommended I know, but it was the only option I had left and that of an option in good time. With a second or two to spare, the door swung open, revealing the monster of a man, which I so called “loved”. Oblivious to my plan, he heavily stomped towards me, grasping the quilt and began wrenching out the case. He scowled infuriatingly at me and his tone of voice became more aggressive as he spoke.I would like any critique on how to improve my work pleasee x more

Resolved Question: Can 2 people have a genuine relationship after being broken up for 8 yrs? You tell me!?

Here is a text message conversation that I had with my man. We just got back together after a 8 year split. I need all the advice I can get on this one. me: I want 2 ask u a question. I need u 2 answer it with 100% honesty, even if u think ur answer will hurt me. Will u do that 4 me? him: Yes me:R u n luv with the woman you were dating in sac? him: No! Honestly me: Do you even love her at all? him: I thought i did but i realized i dont... me: R u n love with anyone? him: I got luv 4 my children's mother but not in luv with her. And i love u!!! me: Ok thank you him: So what was tht about? me: I knew u still had luv 4 your childrens mother. I thought u were n love with her. I just wanted 2 make sure i'm not getting n between u & the person u luv. I realized last nite that i'm still in love with you. him: No we can't be together we just gota be cool 4 da kids thas it. me: who? him: And so am i me: You are what? him: Me n my children's mother ... And i still love u too me: No u don't understand. Not only do i love u, i am n love with u. It scares me to feel this way about you again. I layed my head in my bestfriend's lap and cried my eyes and heart out to her for an hour after I came back from dropping U off at work this morning. U are the only man that has ever been able 2 bring me 2 tears without saying or doing anything 2 me. Y is that? I have never loved anybody the way i love u. me: I am still in love with u too i do understand ... Just dont wanna be hurt no more i can't take it ... Okay now that you have read the textversation what is your take on the situation. Oh and we were only texting because he was at work. We had a follow-up conversation later that night which produced the same results. He wanted to make sure I understood where he was coming from and that he wasn't in love with another woman, and that he has never loved another woman the way he has always loved me. We are planning on moving in with each other next month and I want to make sure we are doing the right thing. I have 2 children (1 of which is his) and he has 2 children. My children will be living with us, his will be living with their mother. Okay, I broke it off 8 yrs ago because I wanted a family and marriage and he wanted to finish school and live a little more first. I understood & respected his decision. However, I was already pregnant (he never knew), I don't believe in abortion, so I broke it off with him, married another man, had my baby, then another with my husband, got an annulment after 4+ yrs of pure hell, met someone else was with him for 3 yrs, then me & my man started dating off & on for the next year. I KNOW FOR A FACT HE ONLY HAS LOVE FOR HIS CHILDREN'S MOTHER. He can't stand to be around her for more than half an hour. He has told me several times over the years that he is in love with me. I just happened to be the one to say it 1st when we decided to make our relationship exclusive. I held a lot of quilt for not telling him I was carrying his child. The woman in sac as well as his BM have told me that they always felt as if they were in competition with me, like they had to live up to my standards. They both said that I was he 1 true love. He has connected with his son and is a great dad. He never shows favorites between my sons, or his other children (except for the youngest she is the only girl and we both spoil her. LOL). He asked me to move in with him. We actually got a new house and are moving in with each other. He knows I want to go back to school to finish my degree and he is not only helping me do it, he demanded that I do it. He was like you need to go back to school and get your degree. He said I have always put everybody and everything before myself and that now is the time to do something for me and stop worrying about everybody else. He pushes me to be better, want better, and do better than I currently have. We both have been out of our former relationships for over a year. I was just wondering if his heart was on the same page as mine. All our friends have said go for it and stop dwelling on the negative 8 yr gap in our relationship. Who knows???? WHAT DO I DO? I LOVE HIM BUT I DON'T WANT TO LOVE HIM IF I AM GOING TO GET HURT. I AM SO CONFUSED. IS HE PLAYING WITH MY HEART? IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET BACK TOGETHER AFTER BEING APART FOR 8 YEARS. more

Resolved Question: Is it wrong to give someone a gift that you had initially made for someone else?

I had started this quilt for someone else, and I am pretty much finished with it. My intentions were to give it to someone, but that didn't pan out, so I kept working on it, and now that its done, I don't want to see it go to waste. Its a pretty neat quilt, and I have someone in mind that I think would adore it. Is that tacky? He wouldn't have any idea that I had planned on giving it to someone else at one point.Hey Sweetie babes, where ya been?????Revenge, give me a break, I started the quilt last winter, and I didn't have much to do at the time besides sit home and make a quilt! I can also crochet..... more

Resolved Question: My sister and I plan to design and construct a quilt but I've never done this before... any advice?

My Grandma's 75th birthday is In March and my sister came up with the idea of making a quilt with pictures for her birthday. I agreed to work with her on it, but I've never done anything like this before. As for my sister, I think she might have helped construct a quilt once, but I'm not sure and I know she's never designed a quilt before. We both agreed that when we see each other on Christmas, we would present our design ideas to each other, decide on one and split up the work. Any advise????? more

Resolved Question: Fondant on buttercream frosting question?

I am making a cake that looks like a quilt. I used fondant for the quilt. My family HATES the taste of fondant but it was the best thing to use for this particular cake. However, I made it so the fondant will just lay over the cake ... it won't actually have to be put on like normal fondant cakes. So my question is ... I am planning on just peeling the " fondant quilt " off the top when we are ready to eat. Should I just put an extra layer of buttercream on the top before I lay the fondant down? I'm assuming the fondant would pull up some of the buttercream frosting underneath so I'm just wondering if I should put extra on. more

Resolved Question: What's a good motive?

In a "who did it" type of game, we have grandma found dead. Her neighbor, Prissy did it. She and grandma have been friends for years and were planning to attend a quilt festival the day grandma was found dead. Prissy is the one who called the police and made the report. The reason she was suspected was because she could not come up with an alibi and couldn't remember consistently remember the time they were suppose to go to the quilt festival. What was the reason prissy killed grandma? be as creative as you wish. more

Voting Question: Need help coming up with a motive for my story...?

We had this "who did it" type of lab, and we were given three characters and there story and we had to figure out who did it. Well, I know who did it but I can't figure out a motive (we get to make it up!). The story goes: At 5 pm on saturday, police respond to a 911 call for the death of my grandma. It appeared that grandma had fallen down the back porch stairs, fatally hitting her head on the concrete below. But the officer found some mysterious shards of bloody glass near the body. Now the person who did it's story is: Prissy is Grandma's next door neighbor. She was the one who called the police on saturday. She and grandma have been friends for years and they had plans to attend to quilt makers festival together on that very day. Investigators wanted her to submit a blood sample because she didn't have an alibi and she couldn't seem to consistently remember the time that she and grandma were suppose to attend the festival. So get creative and come up with a motive as to why Prissy killed Grandma. =) You don't have to write a long story, just explain why you picked it please! (unless you just feel like writing a story..)And I forgot to mention - An autopsy revealed that grandma died from a fatal blow to the head, but the wound pattern is not consistent with a fall down the stairs. Instead, the wound indicated that grandmas large glass cat snow globe was used to kill grandma.I know WHY she was a suspect and that she IS the one who killed grandma, but I need to know WHY she did it. What was the reason behind killing grandma. more

Resolved Question: Pieced Appliqued Quilt?

Hi- I'm having a little trouble deciding what path I want to take on a quilt I have started. It's "Sally-Nightmare Before Christmas-y" in color and idea. I have pieced together distorted heart shapes (leaving room to turn under the edges.) I plan on using freezer paper. Where I am confused is how exactly to get it onto the background block. I originally wanted a "folky" (ala "Sally's stitched body") running stitch in a contrasting color around each heart shape, but I'm worried this won't be strong enough to keep the hearts on the quilt. I've flirted with doing a satin stitch, but I don't think that's the style I want. I looked into the blanket stitch as well, but I REALLY like the look of a running stitch. Should I use fabric glue or 2 way fusible bonding on the applique (would I still turn the edges under?) and then do my running stitch? Also- The heart shapes are pieced together with a dark red cotton, black cotton, and medium gray (wool suiting). Should my running stitch be any of these colors or should I throw white in there? The background blocks are light gray and darker gray. The binding and border are black. Thanks guys!Barbara- do I iron the applique down to the background after turning it right side out? more

Voting Question: Can someone help me with inequalities?

In my homework, it says to solve and write an inequality for each situation, but i get really confused between them... 1: Karin has $3 to spend in the arcade. The game she likes costs 50 cents per play. What are the possible numbers of times that she can play? 2: Tyrone has $21 and wants to buy juice drinks for his soocer team, there are 15 players on his team. How much can each drink cost so that Tyrone can buy one drink for each person? 3: A swimming pool is 7 feet deep and is being filled at the rate of 2.5 feet per hous. How long can the pool be left unattended without the water overflowing? 4: Megan is making quilts that require 11 feet of cloth each. She had 50 feet of cloth. What are the possible numbers of quilts she can make? 5: Ms. Mullock is planning a breakfats meeting for 45 people. She wants at least one bagel per person, but bagels are only sold in boxes of a dozen. What is the least numberof boxes she could buy? THANX SO MUCH!!  more

Resolved Question: What should I use for straps when I am making a tote bag?

I am planning on sewing a tote bag for school. I got a new sewing machine and I really, really like sewing and I'm good at it. Instead of paying 40 dollars for a tote bag, I want to make one. I have a fabric in mind that I might order. It's technically a quilt fabric, so it's stronger and durable. What do I use for straps? I don't want to just cut strips of the fabric and sew them on for straps, that will look bad. But I want the straps to be strong. What do I use? Thank you more

Resolved Question: Christmas Gift for a 12 year old girl?

My In-laws drew names for christmas gifts this weekend and I got my husbands 12-year old girl cousin. I have NO idea what to get her. I really don't know her that well and plan on turning to asking her dad for ideas but I want to see if anyone on yahoo answers came give me ideas for me to come up with someone on my own.... I know she loves animals. Grandma told me that lately shes wanting to learn how to cook. I would love to make her a quilt, however grandma makes amazing ones and I'm not even close to her skills so I'll leave any quilts she would ever get to her grandma. Our limit is 25.00. Any ideas? Thanks! more
