Voting Question: My wireless network isn't working, I NEED help!?

On my other computer, the wireless network won't let me connect. When I open it up, it says; "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software. If you want to configure this wireless connection, start the Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) service. For information about starting the WZC service, see article 871122 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base on the microsoft.com Web site." Well, it used to always work until recently, and I don't know of any program that's managing the connection currently. I went to microsoft.com and looked it up, opened the WZC service, but it was already on "automatic" and it was already started, which is what it tells me to do. So, can anybody help me? I have no clue what to do now, but I need to connect to the internet.I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the card 3 times, and it still gives me the same error. Also, my card is a "Dell TrueMobile 1300 WLAN Mini-PC", that's what it says at least. I'm also on Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2. more

Voting Question: Wireless swoftware was uninstalled.?

I accidentally uninstalled a program called "atheros" and another called "wi-fi something" (i dont remember the full name.) Now, my laptop doesn't detect wireless networks. Someone told me to go to services.msc I did and they told me to search for wireless zero configuration. I am using windows vista, so I was told that for my computer, it would be called WLAN autoconfig. The program says it is running, the guy who was helping me told me to set it to "start", but it had never stopped. So i don't know what to do from that point, to make my laptop detect wireless networks. What if I don't have a restore cd? are there other ways to do it or I'm pretty much done for? D: more

Voting Question: How can I make windows always configure my wireless network settings?

I recently reinstalled my operating system (Windows XP Pro)and somehow messed up my wireless network settings. Before I can connect to the internet via my wireless connection, I have to run: %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s - from there I turn on (start) the "wireless zero configuration" which then provides the option of "allow windows to configure my wireless network connections" box in the network connections page. When I do this, my computer finds the connection instantly and connects. But, whenever I shutdown and start the computer back up i have to go through these same steps to connect to the internet. I have no idea what I did or how to make windows the default program to configure my wireless network settings. How do I change these settings permanently so I don't have to go through these steps every time? Please help. And thank you. more

Resolved Question: What is wrong with my wireless internet connection?

Okay..here's the deal. I've had wireless internet going with my laptop for about a year. I plugged the wireless router into my parents modem. My dad set it up for me. It has always worked fine. Recently, my parents decided to get wireless internet for themselves so they got adapters computers for them and theirs works fine. Now. Every time I turn my computer on, it connects to the wireless router but it says limited or no connectivity. I called our internet company and they helped me. But its only a temporary fix. They had me go to manage my computer. And start the service of wireless zero configuration. Then go to properties of wireless connection in network connections. And go to wireless networks and check the box that said use windows to configure this wireless connection. That makes my internet work. But as soon as I log off my computer, I have to redo that to get back on the internet. My internet company keeps telling me to do the same thing. It's only a temporary fix. How do I fix it? more

Voting Question: I need help with my internet?

I have a Linksys wireless router and it requires the advisor to be installed on the computer. When I first set it up, My PC has broken and I set up the router using my laptop. It is currently connected wirelessly. My laptop can Only establish the connection using it's already installed Wireless Network Connection. But because of the advisor, my computer thinks that it is using the advisor as the program to establish an internet connection. Well it can't do that. So if my connection isn't working, I have to start the Wireless Zero Configuration service. And once I actually get the connection up, the computer stops the service. My mom got annoyed of bubbles saying that there are internet problems so the Advisor is only installed on my laptop. How can I keep my wireless zero service running while keeping the advisor on my laptop? (Linksys won't work without that program on at least one computer.) more

Resolved Question: Can't connect to wireless internet on laptop?

I have had this problem since I have installed an automatic update a while ago. I have noticed since then I could not connect. When I click on wireless internet connections. I have a new wireless router and is working fine but my computer is not wirelessly connecting to it. I am using a cord directly connecting to the router. So this is what is says when I click on Wireless Connections: Windows cannot configure wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software. (I did not enable another program, I noticed this when I have installed Automatic Updates) If you want to configure this wireless connection, start the Wireless Zero Configuration service. For information about starting the WZC service, see article 871122 in the Microsft knowledge base on the microsoft.com web site.I have tried what emp02 sent me, but when I click start, It reads this: Could not start the Wireless Zero COnfiguration service on local computer. Voting Question: How can I keep my Wireless Zero Configuration turned on so I don't have to restart my internet every day?

Every time I turn my computer on, I have to go back into my Services dialogue box, and start my Wireless Zero Configuration up, before going into my wireless advanced settings, selecting an account, and logging in. It's a HUGE pain in the butt, and I would really just like to be able to turn my computer on, and use the internet without the hassle of having to start it all up every time. Is there any way to fix this...? I've brought it to two different computer specialists, and neither of them were any help at all. more

Resolved Question: What the heck does this mean? ?

Ok I did not go into my wireless options nor did I change anything! So first thing when I turn my lap top on...the internet doesn't connect...so I unplug wires like I normally do and waited five minutes and it is connected now...but when I went to refresh network list...in the network list it says "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software. If you want Windows to configure this wireless connection, start the wireless zero configuration. (WZC) service. For information about starting the WZC service, see article 871122 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base on the microsoft.com Web site." Now I have never seen this message ever and why would it just come up by it's self? I didn't change anything or even touched the wireless connection since the computer guy had to come here to change the card...was the problem the last time! Now this! I'm getting really fed up with this stupid wireless....I thought it was supposed to be better? Not really. It always giving me problems. Does anyone know why it would say that even though I did not touch anything and did it on it's own?!?!?! I also have a secure wireless if that means anything...How do the change the connections or reload them? Thanks... more

Voting Question: computer will not connect to the internet?

Hey there. First for some background information, I have a 2nd computer connected to my router through a cable as well as a laptop, neither of which have any difficulty connecting to the internet. I have not tried using a wired connection as of yet as I would have to tear everything apart to get it to the area where the router is. :( One day some time ago I accidentally removed my wireless connection (Linksys Compact Wireless-G connection) through the safely remove hardware box. I reinstalled the program and my computer would only connect sometimes and usually only for pages with very little content. I (today) uninstalled it then reinstalled the program. It would not connect once again and after doing some homework, started the wireless zero configuration service. It now shows up with a valid IP, subnet and Default gateway addresses. It is connected to the linksys wireless network with a very good signal strength and the wzc service is started. It also shows it is sending and receiving packets (connected for 1/2 hour and 402 sent, 53 received - if that matters??). I have weather network icons in my tray and 2 of 3 of them are displaying current weather information (I just did a restart so if nothing was coming through they would have x's on them). I also have not changed any firewall settings. It worked very well prior to my slip of the fingers and as far as I can see there should be no reason for my computer to not connect to the internet but then again I am not greatly experienced with things like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks a bunch. Cheers! One other thing when I try to connect on msn it tells me that my gateway is offline. more

Resolved Question: Turning off computer services may harm my computer?

Ok, I was told somewhere that this is a way to make your computer faster, now I'm not a stupid person when it comes to computers, but running services is something I never really got into learning about. The following is not mine, it is text from someone else I found it on a website, please tell me if this could be harmful to my computer: "By Reingold - How to make your Windows Xp and Windows 2000 clean and run fast! I am a computer student with certificates in networking and computers. Have done extensive research in this technique and use it on my computers. IMPORTANT!!!! This is what makes it really fast! ;) For optimised system go to Start menu at bottom left, then run, type "msconfig" go to "start up" uncheck all startup items go to services disable all then "apply" check only these items in order going down windows audio dhcp event log windows installer network connections plug and play 2 remotes (already on) shell hardware detection themes windows management (both if there is two) THATS ALL THE SERVICES YOU NEED!!!!! (UNLESS YOU WANT WIRELESS - THEN CHECK "WIRELESS ZERO CONFIGURATION" it's at the bottom) THATS ALL, ENJOY!" more

Voting Question: Wireless Laptop Connection?

Have patience with me, I am at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to computers. I have a 2 month old Acer laptop and Net-Gear router which have been working fine. Now, my laptop will not connect to the internet unless I perform a long process which I am going to tell you all about. I called net-gear, they walked me through a looooong process. I have to go to "run" and type in services.mcs then go to "wireless zero configuration" - "right click" then click on "properties" then click on "start" under "services status"....this then gets me connected. However, every time I turn my laptop on I have to do this process all over again. The "service status" always says "stopped" when I go into "wireless zero configuration". There is an "apply" button there but it is never highlighted. The rest of my family does not know how to do this and we should not have to do this every time the laptop gets turned on. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this a bad router or a bad laptop or something.....Please HELP??? P.S. I have a desktop and modem set up in a different room (for emergencies) and that works just fine...just thought I would throw that out here in case that has anything to do with it. Thank you in advance. P.S.S. I am not happy with my Acer laptop...the company told me it was brand new...it is not...it is refurbished (I paid good money for this - because I wanted Windows XP), it sometimes blinks (like it is going to shut off), freezes often, and gives me that "send error message" and boots me off the internet (this was before this other problem started).  more

When I finished re-installing everything, and clicked on the Wireless Network Connection icon that is on the bottom right hand side of my computer it didn't list any available networks, but said that Windows could not configure the wireless connection. It also said to look up an article in the Microsoft knowledge base. I did this (on a different computer, of coarse) and didn't really get anywhere with it. After some tinkering around, I finally found out that the knowledge base was telling me the right things, but in the wrong order. I now have to type %systemroot%\system32\services.msc /s into the run box, and then scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and then click start. From there I go back to the Wireless Network connection and click on "change advanced settings/wireless networks and then click on "use windows to configure my wireless network settings." I'm running out of room, I'll add more details.Anyway, doing the above lets me connect to the internet for a time, but after a few hours, it disconnects. Resolved Question: Laptop doesn't find any wireless network out there. Built in wireless card(Broadcom). Configuration problem?

I have an Acer Aspire 3100+ with Windows Xp and Service Pack 2. For some reason, it doesn't detect any wireless networks out there. It has a built in wireless card which is a "Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter" it shows the device is working properly. I have two other computers : a desktop and a wireless Dell that are connected to the internet. The desktop is wired on it. I'm using a U.S Robotics USR5461 wireless router with AT&T DSL connection. I have searched everywhere to see how to get this laptop connected wirelessly but still nothing worked. One thing though: I went to the Services option in Adminstrative Tools (Control Panel) to Enable the "Windows Zero Configuration Utility". It showed that it was already 'Automatic' and 'Started'. This is supposed to make a "Windows Zero Configuration Utility" icon when I go to Control Panel. But there is no such icon there. I know there its supposed to be because I saw it my Dell laptop. My router has also set all wireless devices to connectMy connection is WEP open with a password. I have tried manually by adding the 'SSID' and a password by right clicking on the wireless icon in 'network connections' and it still doesnt connect to it. Because it can't detect it. Please help. Its worked before. I don't think there's any wireless software with the built in card. I have even tried reinstalling it and its the same thing. It doesnt detect ANY networks no matter how close I put it near my router.Oh and the wireless icon in "network Connections" shows a red X with 'not connected' and 'firewalled'There is also no switch on the laptop. I don't see how the built in card is bad because we haven't used it that much before. It has worked before though. I'm about to see if the updated wireless card driver works. I got it from the Acer website. more

In my situation, the services that stop are DHCP Client, Themes, Windows Audio, and Wireless Zero Configuration. This happens about once a day, and it's starting to get annoying. I've scanned my computer with 5 different programs, finding no spyware, adware, viruses, etc. What is causing these services to stop?? more

Resolved Question: Wireless Zero Configuration: why won't it start automatically?

It worked up until a few months ago. Then it stopped, and it said to go look at an article on their website. I did what it told me to---I ran services.msc and started Wireless Zero Configuration. But ever since then, it won't start automatically. Every time I boot up my computer, I have to run services, start the software, and enable windows to configure it. What happened? I found another answer to this problem that said to save the shortcut to your startup folder, but I don't know how to do that. Please someone help---I'm sick of it not being able to connect automatically to the internet. more

Resolved Question: What could be the problem...?

I have a Netgear USB wireless device. Ive been using it for about a month and no problems... BUT recently when I disconnected my device and attached it again, it brings up the blue screen of death saying: DEVICE_IRQL_ISNOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL then some parameters, and at the end its got my driver MA101.sys (or was it .dll) anyways, I went to SERVICES and disabled WIRELESS ZERO CONFIGURATION -> then attached my device at nothing happens ! it detects it but still cant connect to the network because of the WIRELESS ZERO being disabled. SO I start it, but this time I switch off my wireless router, and still nothing happens. BUT when I switch the router on, the device searches for the network and As soon as it connects to it, the blue screen reappears . . . APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE. (10 points for grabs for the best answer ;) ) THANKS IN ADVANCE more

Resolved Question: I can't connect to my wireless router?

After returning from vacation, and connecting my laptop to at various relatives house and then doing some noodling around myself; this is what happens: When I click the wireless icon on the tool bar and try to "view availible wireless networks" I get a message that "windows cannot configure this wireless connection" and that I should "start the wireless zero configuration service". What did I do and how can I get those availible wireless networks to appear again?Restarting the modem did not work. The adaptor and everything is intalled. As I mentioned the set up was working fine before I left for vacation. Another program is controlling it but I want windows to do it. How can I stop the WZC message?Clicking "repair" does nothing either. more
