Resolved Question: can i escape AT&T's $30.00 a month fee for iphone?

i'm a tad confused on how this works. so here's my deal; my dad bought a iphone 3g from someone last night and as far as i know it is activated because prior to the purchase it was in use. but my main confusion comes from the $30.00 a month fee that AT&T adds for the 3G networking. and as crazy as it sounds i'm not too concerned about having internet on it because i have wireless at my home and my school that i can tap into. also on my account i DO NOT have internet access, my dad has it restricted for me. 1.) so basically all i want is the phone without internet, is that possible for me since i WILL NOT be receiving it from a AT&T or Apple store? 2.) also, by me getting this phone would AT&T automatically connect me to their EDGE/3G network and then charge me the $30.00 a month without my dad's consent? 3.) and if i would be charged with the $30.00 for the networking, is there a way i can have it taken off my account? ex: would my dad have to call AT&T and have them completely block their internet from my phone? also, keep in mind that i would not be receiving the phone from a AT&T or Apple store. more

Resolved Question: 10mb Sky Broadband downloading at 250kb why?

hey, i got the sky Broadband pack about 2 years ago which got me the deal of paying for sky TV and getting my internet cheaper because of it. i choose the free wireless router modem with 10mb Broadband. my Friend just got his Virgin media at 10mb and hes hitting download speeds of 730kb. When i first got the 10mb broadband when it was new just started out i had problems with really crappy speeds i had to keep phoning them and tell them it was really slow but after a few weeks of pressuring them i got an answer saying they forgot to put my speeds back up when they was testing or some bullshit like that. Im thinking of phoning them and asking them what download speed i should be getting but if any1 with 10mb sky Broadband is getting the same speeds i wont bother with the hassle. THX. more

Resolved Question: Best Internet deal for me

Ok so I've been given the task of sorting out our internet in my student house in Birmingham. I thought this would be an easy task but there are a few complications. Ideally what we want is telly with a free-view box and decent reception, internet on a wireless router with no download limit which is fast enough for a house of 4 people, and we don't really want a land-line (phone). Ok so issue number one: Our telly reception is very poor, the terrestrial signal is fuzzy even when tuned in as best we can and the free view box says there is no signal. Since we live near the middle of Birmingham I doubt we are in a reception dead zone so I wonder if this might be a problem with our aerial, should this be our responsibility or our landlord? Apparently the previous tenants had a deal with telewest for broadband and tv which is probably because of the problem above, but I am reluctant to pay a subscription for tv if it is just a case of sorting out reception. The next issue is line rental. If we get an internet on its own deal do we have to pay bt for line rental even if we have no intention of using a phone? If yes then is it cheaper to get an internet and phone deal that includes line rental even if the phone is rarely used? One final question is about O2's broadband deal. It seems very attractive but is only for O2 customers, I have an O2 pay as you go phone, do I count as an O2 customer or do you need to have a contract with O2 to qualify?Well I've been looking all night and found a few things. Basically it is between the O2/BT combination or Virgin Media. With Virgin we pay about £7 more a month but it does solve our telly problem and there is a possible connection fee with BT of £125 and they won't even tell us whether or not we have to pay it untill we have signed up! (Is that legal?). Also since the house previously had telewest there hopefully won't be a connection fee (or a big connection fee) with Virgin. more

Resolved Question: Can I access internet on my mobile without 3G coverage?

I've just joined O2, and with the £35 deal I can get an extra 'Bolt-On'..which is like a freeby deal. The choices of Bolt-Ons' I'm interested in are: Unlimited Web Bolt-On 200 Extra Minutes Unlimited Weekend Calls I'm just wondering before I make a decision, can I access the Internet on my phone if I'm somewhere where 3G coverage is nil? I quite like the fact I can surf the net on my phone, and do it at home through my wireless router. But havent yet tested if it's available when Im not in a 3G area. If it's not possible..then I'll probably go for the 200 extra mins ;) Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Requirements for Virgin Broadband?

Im interested in getting the L virgin broadband deal. This provides up to 4mb, is this fast enough for general BBC iPlayer and 4od use and those sort of everday tasks? This deal comes with a free wireless router, does this mean that I can plug the router etc into the phone line socket and not have to plug into a computer and then just use the wireless? ie does the router have to be plugged into a computer at all times in order for it to work? I want a broadband deal that does not require a landline as I would not use this if I had one, can anyone suggest anything better than Virgin Broadband? Many thanks more

Resolved Question: Tiscali broadband? or other supplier?

Ive just seen an ad for tiscali broadband which offers broadband and a phone line with free calls for £20 a month which includes the phone line rental,im currently with virgin£18 a month and have a landline with bt at average£80 a qtr, which i think is a rip off i would like to know if they are a decent company im not worried about download speeds as i dont download i just want to save so,the ad states free wireless router but i dont want to go wireless so does anyone know if i have to go wireless with them...thanks in advance, the deal seems good as you still use the bt line but through tiscali they must have a deal with bt,which would save me lots per qtr and theoretically i will be only paying £2 more for my broadband but with free calls, can anyone tell me oif this really is a good deal more

Resolved Question: I Need wireless broadband NOW! how to get it fast in London?

I just moved into a new flat.. I was told by the landlord it will come with a working phone line and broadband. He lied.. Thing is, I work from home most of the time and manage a couple of websites. Internet is like air to me. I won't have money to eat without the net :) Anyways.. have looked online and there seem to be some available contract less deals out there.. But I have never done this before and don't know how to go about it... I presume I will have to call BT to get the phone line here activated, but once I do that is it possible to literally by the box.. rooter etc and plug it in the same day? Or is my only option ordering and wait for some company to deliver next week? Info will be much appreciated. xoxo more

Resolved Question: Help needed finding the right wireless router/hub (???)?

My PC is about 10 metres from my phone socket so I've been told that I need to go wireless or I'll get an even slower ADSL connection than I'm currently being offered. Resolved Question: Wireless router set up?

Hi - as usual the instructions that came with my wireless router might just as well be in Martian! Here's the deal ...I've just bought a new wifi laptop - and a new Cable and Wireless router and my phone line has just gone live to a Tiscali internet connection. Tiscali sent a wired modem and instructions of how to install it to get an internet connection and to do this before anything else. On the router's instructions it says UNINSTALL any other internet connection devices and programmes beore installing the router!! So . . .what do you suggest we do first - install Tiscali first and then the router or install the router first and then Tiscali???? Aaaarrrggh!! Help!!! more

Resolved Question: Good cell phone deals in the UK without contract?

I am moving to the UK next Monday. I have a cell phone which I want to keep. I will replace the SIM card and am looking for a deal where I just manually recharge my phone with the amount I need every month. Maybe some of you have a suggestion as to what plan might be suitable for me. I am also open for contract suggestions. I probably wont get a landline and use my cellphone instead + wireless Skype phone. Thanks for the help more

Resolved Question: Is my phone bugged?

I was on the phone late last night, after midnight, chatting about the possibility of switching from AOL to BT internet because I want something with a good reputation for its wireless networking capabilities. When I came off the phone a "marketing message" had been left on my BT callminder answering machine quoting the prices for BT Broadband and making specific reference to it's wireless deals. What is BT doing sending out marketing messages at half past midnight? And is this just a coincidence or is big brother watching me?!! more

I have just moved into new house and want to set up a wireless broadband account. Will I have to pay the charge for the interenet provider as well as a phone line rental ie BT? Resolved Question: BT total broadband talk?

I have just connected my phoneline to BT and signed up to have the internet package for £22.99 a month, which not only allows Intenet usuage, but as includes free evening and weekend calls through BT total broadband connection using a normal touch-tone phone. Included in the package deal, you get the 'hub' which is a wireless router that connects to all broad-band enable devices. (sound confusing?!) any, i was abit confused, so i looked on BT website to try and find out abit more about this and how it all works, but its not that easy to understand!! (computer novice!) Can someone please tell me, clearly how you can use the touch-tone phone to make calls through the broadband? do i have to plug the touch-tone phone into the computer i.e - via USB Port? or is it all picked up via the wireless router ('HUB') ? Also can any digital touch-tone phone be used or do i have to get a 'special' BT phone to use this feature? any other advice on how this works? serious answers only pleasE more
